How to Get the Item Shop Token in Fortnite (Pirate Shop Guide)
Where Fortnite's rare Pirate Shop token drops, how to activate it in the Item Shop, what you can claim during the 14-day window, and which limits apply.
The “Item Shop token” people are searching for is the Pirate Shop token (shown in-game as Pirate Shop Access), and the only way to get it is to find it as a random drop from chests in Fortnite Battle Royale during the Treasure Hunters mini-season. It is extremely rare, it can’t be bought, and once you have it you activate it from the Item Shop to claim V-Bucks cosmetics at no cost for 14 days.
Everything below reflects reporting as of November 3, 2026, two days after the mini-season launched. Epic hasn’t published drop odds or full rules, so some details may change.
What the Pirate Shop token actually does
Treasure Hunters launched on November 1, 2026 with update v43.00, and the Pirate Shop arrived with it. According to Dexerto and esportnow.gg, the token gives you two activations:
- One activation in 2026
- One activation in 2027
Each activation opens a 14-day window. During that window, anything sold for V-Bucks in the Item Shop can be claimed for free. Shacknews describes it as unlimited Item Shop items for two weeks, though other outlets list exceptions (covered below).
How to get the token
There’s no quest, purchase or code. The steps come down to playing the right mode and opening as many chests as you can.
- Play regular Battle Royale. The token drops from chests during the Treasure Hunters mini-season. One guide reports it cannot drop in Ranked lobbies, so stick to public matches.
- Open every chest you pass. It’s a random loot drop. Dataminer HYPEX reported that the Pirate Shop is in the prize pool every week, per esportnow.gg, so there’s no single “drop day” to wait for.
- Party up with friends. Multiple outlets report that when one player finds the token, their party members get it as well. This isn’t stated in Epic’s own text, so treat it as reported rather than confirmed.
- Check before the hunt ends. Reports differ on the exact end date. One says the chest hunt runs until Friday, December 4; Shane the Gamer cites Epic as saying the mini-season runs from November 1 to December 5.
How rare is it?
Very. Epic has not published odds, and players report opening large numbers of chests without a drop. In the first days of the season, only one player, snowslept, had been widely reported as finding one. Dexerto notes it isn’t yet clear whether there’s any limit on how often the token drops overall.
Realistically, think of it as a lottery ticket attached to normal play rather than something you can grind out reliably.
How to activate the Pirate Shop
If you or your party get the token, activation happens in the lobby, not mid-match.
- Finish or leave your match and return to the lobby.
- Open the Item Shop.
- Look in the bottom-right corner for the Pirate Shop option. Guides label it “Plunder the Item Shop” or “PLUNDER THE SHOP”.
- On the activation screen, select Activate Now. Your 14-day window starts immediately.
Activation guides such as Dot Esports and Push Square walk through the same menu. Per current reporting, the first activation has to be used by December 15, 2026. The second activation is due to become available in 2027; exact dates for that one hadn’t been reported at the time of writing.
Tips for timing your activation
Because the window starts the moment you press the button, it’s worth thinking before you activate:
- The Item Shop rotates, so a 14-day window spans multiple rotations. If a specific skin or bundle is rumored to return soon, you may want your window to cover it, but don’t miss the December 15 deadline.
- Make a list of items you want before activating, since you can only claim what’s in the shop during your window.
What you can and can’t claim
This is where coverage is least consistent, so here’s what the sources say side by side.
| Item type | Claimable with Pirate Shop? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cosmetics sold for V-Bucks in the Item Shop | Yes | The core benefit, for 14 days per activation |
| Battle Pass or Battle Pass levels | No | Reported as excluded; pass rewards are handled separately |
| Real-money offers (Starter Packs, V-Bucks bundles) | No | Reported as excluded |
| Gifting items to friends | No | Gifts can’t be sent using the token |
| Sidekicks | Limited | esportnow.gg says one new Sidekick; another guide says each eligible Sidekick you don’t own can be claimed once |
| Transferring the token to another account | No | Reported as non-transferable |
The Sidekick rule is the clearest example of conflicting reports, so check the in-game shop text when you activate.
If you were hoping to use the Pirate Shop window to send items to friends, note that ordinary gifting still follows Epic’s normal rules. Epic’s gifting help page says recipients must have been on your Friends list for at least 2 days, gifts are capped at 5 per 24 hours, and you can’t gift items that aren’t currently in the Item Shop, V-Bucks or Battle Pass levels.
Watch out for token scams
Any time Epic adds a rare reward, fake offers follow. As of November 2026, every reputable outlet agrees the token only comes from in-game chests. That means:
- There are no legitimate “Pirate Shop codes” to redeem.
- Nobody can sell you a token or add one to your account.
- Sites promising free V-Bucks or token generators are scams, and handing over your Epic login can cost you your whole locker.
If you didn’t find it in a chest (or get it through your party), you don’t have it.
The short version
- The “Item Shop token” is the Pirate Shop token from Fortnite’s Treasure Hunters mini-season.
- It drops randomly from Battle Royale chests, reportedly not in Ranked, and it’s extremely rare.
- Party members reportedly receive it too, though Epic hasn’t confirmed this.
- Activate it from the Item Shop’s bottom-right “Plunder the Shop” option for 14 days of free V-Bucks cosmetics.
- You get one activation in 2026 (use it by December 15) and one in 2027.
- Battle Pass, real-money bundles and gifting are excluded.
Details may change as Epic updates the mini-season, so check the in-game shop text and Fortnite’s official channels before you activate.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy the Pirate Shop token or get it from a code? +
No. As of November 2026, every outlet covering it describes the token as a random drop from chests in Battle Royale during the Treasure Hunters mini-season. Sites offering token codes, generators or account services are scams; never hand over your Epic login.
Do my squadmates get the token if I find it? +
Several outlets report that party members receive it too, but Epic's own in-game text does not say this, and reports differ on the details. Treat squad sharing as likely but unconfirmed.
Can I get the token in Ranked? +
At least one guide says the token cannot drop in Ranked lobbies, while regular public matches are fine. Epic has not published full drop rules, so play standard Battle Royale to be safe.
Can I use the Pirate Shop to gift items or get Battle Pass levels? +
Reports say no. Battle Pass levels, real-money offers like Starter Packs and V-Bucks bundles, and gifting are excluded, and the token itself cannot be transferred.
When does the token stop dropping? +
Sources disagree slightly: one reports the chest hunt runs until December 4, while another cites Epic saying the mini-season runs from November 1 to December 5. Either way, the first activation reportedly has to be used by December 15, 2026.
