Aion 2 on PC: Launch, System Requirements and What to Know
Aion 2 launched globally on Steam on October 5, 2026. Learn the PC specs, how free-to-play works, the eight classes, servers and what reviewers are saying.
Aion 2 is NCSOFT’s new fantasy MMORPG, and its global PC version launched for free on Steam and NC’s PURPLE launcher on October 5, 2026, after a Founder’s Pack early access period that started September 30. It’s trending because it hit a peak of nearly 400,000 concurrent players on launch day. Players are also split on it: reviews are mixed, and most complaints are about the monetization and login queues.
Below you’ll find what the game is, what PC you need to run it, how free-to-play works here and what to expect from the first weeks. All details are as of October 10, 2026 and may change with patches.
What Aion 2 is
Aion 2 is the sequel to NCSOFT’s 2008 MMORPG Aion. It launched in Korea and Taiwan before coming to the West. The global version keeps the series’ core idea: two winged factions, the Elyos and the Asmodians, who level through PvE content and then fight each other in the Abyss and other cross-faction modes.
The global release runs on PC only. You can play through Steam or through PURPLE, and both connect to the same servers. Servers are grouped into five regions: Europe, North America West, North America East, Latin America and Asia. NC lists them in its official server and matchmaking notice.
Launch numbers and reception
The launch was one of NCSOFT’s biggest on Steam. Here’s what reporting shows:
- Peak players: SteamDB logged a Steam peak of 397,905 concurrent players on October 5 (Tech Times). NC says the combined total passed 400,000 once PURPLE players are included, because SteamDB only counts Steam (Inven Global).
- Early access: The Founder’s early access peak was about 171,500 players, so the free launch more than doubled it.
- Charts: NC says the game reached No. 1 on Steam’s Top Sellers, Popular New Releases and Trending Free charts.
- Reviews: Reported review scores depend on when they were checked. The Elec cited 73% positive (“Mostly Positive”) on October 6, while other outlets reported a “Mixed” score in the mid-60s. GamesRadar reported that negative reviews mostly target the cash shop and the reported use of generative AI assets.
Check the live score on the Steam page before you decide, because it was still moving at the time of writing.
PC system requirements
For a hardware site, this is the part that matters most. Guides that copied the Steam store listing agree on the core specs:
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10/11 64-bit | Windows 10/11 64-bit |
| CPU | AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / Intel Core i5-10500 | AMD Ryzen 7 3700X / Intel Core i7-11700 |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| GPU | NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti (4GB) | NVIDIA RTX 2070 (8GB) |
| DirectX | 12 | 12 |
| Storage | 100 GB | 100 GB |
| Network | Broadband | Broadband |
A few caveats:
- Target settings are low. According to guides citing the listing, the minimum spec is meant for 1080p on the Very Low preset and the recommended spec for 1080p on Low. “Recommended” here doesn’t mean high settings. To play on medium or high, plan for a GPU clearly faster than an RTX 2070.
- AMD GPU equivalents vary by source. Some guides list an RX 470 (4GB) as the minimum and an RX 5700 XT (8GB) as recommended. Others say the English Steam page names only NVIDIA cards. Check the store page yourself if you’re on Radeon.
- Use an SSD. Guides consistently recommend one. For a 100 GB MMO that streams large zones and busy cities, a hard drive will mean long load times.
Quick tuning tips
- Start from the preset that matches your tier (Very Low for minimum-class hardware, Low for recommended-class), then raise texture quality first if your GPU has 8 GB or more of VRAM.
- In crowded areas and large-scale PvP, lower the settings that scale with the number of players and effects on screen before you lower the resolution.
- Keep your GPU drivers up to date. A 16 GB RAM system will handle background apps such as Discord and a browser much better than 8 GB.
How free-to-play works
The game costs nothing to download and play. Paid options are layered on top, and reviewers have pointed to them as the main source of frustration. Based on launch coverage and guides:
- Membership. A monthly membership (reported at $15) unlocks full use of the Auction House and the player-driven currency exchange. Free players can still earn and spend in-game currency, but selling and full trading are limited without it.
- Premium currency, passes and cosmetics are sold in the in-game shop. NC has said consumables don’t affect long-term gear progression, but many negative Steam reviews call the shop pay-to-win.
- Founder’s Packs. Three tiers (Standard, Deluxe, Ultimate) were sold before launch at reported prices of $24.99, $49.99 and $99.99. They included a five-day head start, which has now ended. Post-launch guides describe the rest of each pack as cosmetics plus 30 days of membership.
If you’re unsure, start as a free player. You can always buy the membership later, once you know you’ll stick with the game. Buy only through the official shop, Steam or PURPLE. Third-party currency sellers break the terms of service and can get your account banned.
Classes
The global version launched with eight classes. Fan guides and class overviews agree on this list:
| Class | Role |
|---|---|
| Gladiator | Melee damage |
| Templar | Tank |
| Assassin | Burst melee damage |
| Ranger | Ranged physical damage |
| Sorcerer | Magic damage |
| Spiritmaster | Summoner |
| Cleric | Healer |
| Chanter | Hybrid support |
Some English coverage calls the Spiritmaster “Elementalist”, but it’s the same class. The Korean and Taiwanese version also has a Brawler class, which guides say is not on the global launch roster as of October 2026. Both factions can play every class.
Servers, factions and queues
Each server hosts only one faction. Every Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server, and that pairing decides who you fight in the Abyss and other cross-faction content. If you’re playing with friends, agree on a region, faction and server before you create characters.
Demand at launch caused long queues. MassivelyOP reported that NC opened new servers several times on the first day, mostly in Europe, and the official AION 2 account kept announcing more EU pairs during launch week. NC’s own notice says eligible accounts may get priority in queues, but that this doesn’t guarantee immediate entry.
To avoid the worst of the queues:
- Check the official notices board for the newest server pairs in your region. New servers usually start less crowded.
- Pick a server in your own region to get the best latency.
- If you’re already settled, keep an eye on official announcements about server transfers rather than rerolling. Fan sites mention transfer windows opening in mid-October, but confirm the exact dates in NC’s notices.
Is it worth trying?
Because Aion 2 is free, the only real cost of trying it is the 100 GB download. If your PC is near the recommended spec, you’ll get a playable 1080p experience on low settings. Players on older quad-core CPUs or 4 GB graphics cards should expect compromises in busy zones. Classic Aion fans and players who enjoy faction PvP will find plenty here. If aggressive monetization is a dealbreaker for you, read recent Steam reviews first. The launch-week numbers are impressive, but early review scores and player counts for MMOs often shift a lot in the first month.

Frequently asked questions
Is Aion 2 free to play? +
Yes. The global version is free to download and play on Steam and NC's PURPLE launcher. Paid options include a monthly membership, a premium currency, passes and cosmetics, and reviewers have criticized the monetization.
Can I play Aion 2 on PS5 or Xbox? +
Not as of October 2026. The global release is PC-only through Steam and PURPLE. Some fan sites mention a console version, but NC has not announced a date, so treat those claims as unconfirmed.
What graphics card do I need for Aion 2? +
The listed minimum is an NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti (4GB) and the recommended card is an RTX 2070 (8GB). At those tiers the store page suggests playing at 1080p on the Very Low and Low presets, so plan on a stronger card if you want higher settings.
Why am I stuck in a queue in Aion 2? +
When a server fills up, new logins wait in a queue. NC has opened extra servers since launch, mostly in Europe, so check the official notices for newer, less crowded servers. Priority access for eligible accounts does not guarantee you get in right away.
