Universal Tidy Up: Release Date, Gameplay and PC Requirements
What Universal Tidy Up is, when it launches on Steam, how its rule-bending tidying puzzles work, how long it lasts, and whether your PC or handheld can run it.
Universal Tidy Up is a first-person puzzle game from solo developer Monu in which tidying up is the puzzle: you start by putting cups on shelves and sorting books, and each new stage bends the rules of what “tidy” means. It is scheduled to launch on Steam on October 19, 2026, which is why it has shot to the top of Steam’s new and trending lists.
Below is what we know from the official Steam page and launch coverage, including how the puzzles work, how long the game lasts, and what hardware you need. Everything here is as of October 2026, and details such as price and supported platforms may change once the game is out.
What kind of game is Universal Tidy Up?
At first it looks like a cozy cleaning game. You walk around a home in first person, pick things up and put them where they belong. According to Outputlag’s launch report, the opening tasks are ordinary chores like putting cups on shelves and organizing books.
The twist is that the game escalates. Later stages add new rules and stranger objects, and the settings move well beyond an ordinary household. PlayNews describes rules such as shelves that themselves need to be sorted into other shelves, and locations that range from a house to a clock tower and a sunflower field.
So think of it as a logic puzzle game wearing a cleaning-game costume. Each handcrafted stage introduces a new rule set that you have to work out before you can finish the job.
The look and feel
The Steam page describes a retro, 90s-style 3D look. That fits the low system requirements and gives the game a slightly surreal, low-poly feel that suits its increasingly odd locations.
Release date, price and platforms
Here is a quick summary of the key facts and where the sources agree or differ.

About the release date
The Steam page gives October 19, 2026. The Kotaku game listing and IsThereAnyDeal show October 18. The one-day gap is most likely down to time zones around the Steam unlock, but we have not seen the developer confirm an exact launch hour. If the store page still says “coming soon,” wishlisting it is the official way to get a notification when it goes live.
Which platforms are supported?
This is the one area where the sources clearly disagree:
- The Steam system requirements we found are written for Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit).
- Kotaku’s listing names PC, Mac and Linux.
- The English PlayNews article lists Windows only and English only, while the French version of the same article lists Windows, Mac and Linux plus several languages.
Until launch day, treat Windows as the confirmed platform. If you are on Mac or Linux, check the platform icons and the language table on the Steam page before you buy. No console versions have been announced in any source we found.
What about price?
None of the sources we checked listed a price before release. Steam will show it once the game is purchasable. We recommend buying through the official Steam store page. Grey-market key resellers had no offers listed when we looked, and they are not an official channel.
How long is it and how much content is there?
The Steam page lists 24 stages and estimates around 3 to 5 hours for the main game. After the credits, 10 bonus rooms open up for more puzzles. Press coverage rounds this down to “20+ stages,” which matches.
That makes it a good fit for a weekend or a few evenings. Like most puzzle games, your playtime will depend heavily on how quickly each new rule clicks for you.
PC requirements: will it run on your hardware?
Universal Tidy Up is light on hardware. These are the requirements listed on the Steam page as of October 2026:
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 (64-bit) | Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) |
| Processor | Dual-core 2.0 GHz, 64-bit | Quad-core 2.5 GHz |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Integrated graphics with OpenGL 3.3 | Dedicated GPU with 2 GB VRAM |
| Storage | 500 MB | 500 MB |
What this means in practice
- Laptops and older desktops: The minimum spec asks for integrated graphics with OpenGL 3.3. Most laptops from the last several years should meet that, so you almost certainly don’t need to upgrade anything to play.
- Gaming PCs: Any current gaming rig is far above the recommended spec. You won’t need to touch any settings.
- Storage: At 500 MB it is tiny, so it fits comfortably even on a nearly full SSD.
- Handheld PCs: The game has full controller support and low requirements, which makes it a natural fit for Windows handhelds. We have not seen an official Steam Deck compatibility rating yet, so check the Steam page for its Deck status after launch.
How to get started
- Open the Universal Tidy Up Steam page and make sure the developer is listed as Monu. Several unrelated games use “Tidy Up” in their names.
- Check the platform icons and supported languages if you are not on Windows or don’t play in English.
- If the game is not live yet in your region, add it to your wishlist so Steam notifies you at launch.
- Once it is available, buy and install it through Steam. The download is small.
- If you prefer a gamepad, connect it before launching. Full controller support is listed.
Tips for your first stages
These are general approaches that suit the game’s design as described by the developer and press, not step-by-step solutions:
- Read each stage as a new rulebook. Every stage adds rules, so don’t assume what worked last time still applies.
- Look at containers as objects too. Rules like shelves that go inside other shelves mean the furniture can be part of the puzzle, not just the destination.
- Save the bonus rooms for later. They unlock after the credits, so finish the main 24 stages first.
Should you play it?
If you like puzzle games that start simple and then quietly rewrite their own rules, Universal Tidy Up looks like an easy pick, and it will run on almost any PC. As of launch there are no user reviews or professional reviews yet, so if you want an outside opinion, it is worth waiting a few days for the Steam reviews to come in.
