Is It Worth Getting GTA 6 Ultimate Edition? Standard vs Ultimate
What the $99.99 GTA 6 Ultimate Edition adds over the $79.99 Standard Edition, who the extra $20 is worth it for, and why you can safely upgrade later.
For most players, the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition is not worth buying up front: the extra $20 gets you cosmetics, a few vehicles and weapons, five shops and two side activities, none of which change the core story. Because Rockstar sells the same content as a $20 upgrade to Standard owners, the smart move is to buy the $79.99 Standard Edition and upgrade later only if you find you want the extras.
Below is what each edition actually includes, who the Ultimate Edition makes sense for, and the details that are still unclear as of October 28, 2026.
The short version
| Standard Edition | Ultimate Edition | |
|---|---|---|
| US price | $79.99 | $99.99 |
| Base game | Yes | Yes |
| Vintage Vice City Pack (pre-order) | Yes | Yes |
| Exclusive vehicles, weapons, outfits | No | Yes |
| Five exclusive shops | No | Yes |
| Compound raid and classic car jobs | No | Yes |
| Physical copy | Yes (boxed, reportedly a download code) | No, digital only |
| Upgrade later | $20 Ultimate Edition Upgrade | n/a |
Prices are from Gematsu’s report on Rockstar’s announcement and the PlayStation and Xbox store listings. Some outlets round them to $80 and $100. There are only two editions; there is no Special or Deluxe tier.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. As of late October, Rockstar has not announced a further delay, and IBTimes UK reports that rumors of a move to 2027 are unconfirmed. No PC date has been announced.
What the Ultimate Edition actually adds
Rockstar’s support page describes the Ultimate Edition as the base game plus an upgrade bundle of vehicles, weapons, outfits and mod shops, with new items unlocked as you move through each story chapter. Based on Engadget’s breakdown and other coverage, it includes:
Vehicles
- ‘95 Grotti Cheetah: a new take on the classic series supercar.
- Shitzu Squalo: a jet ski that comes loaded with explosives.
- ‘67 Vapid Dominator Buggy.
Weapons and cosmetics
- Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers.
- Exclusive outfits and tattoos.
Shops
- Rideout Customs
- Sara’s Unisex Salon
- Stock 305 (clothing)
- One-Eyed Willie’s (off-road mod shop)
- Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor
Missions
- PTT Youngin$ Compound: a gang stronghold you raid for contraband.
- Classic Car Collection: a series of restoration jobs from a fixer named Wyman.
One thing to know: sources count the items differently. Some guides cite 16 items from Rockstar’s listing, while others group them into different totals. The list above covers everything that the more reliable outlets agree on. Rockstar also hasn’t said which chapter unlocks which shop, so you shouldn’t expect everything on day one.
What both editions get
You don’t need Ultimate for the pre-order bonus. The Vintage Vice City Pack comes with pre-orders of either edition. According to Gfinity and other guides, it includes:
- A ‘55 Vapid Stanier.
- The Shore Court garage near Ocean Beach.
- Vice City-inspired outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia.
- A tropical weapon pattern inspired by Tommy Vercetti.
The PlayStation and Xbox listings also mention one month of GTA+ for pre-orders. The Xbox listing says it must be redeemed within 180 days.
The cutoff is worded differently in different places. The Xbox listing says to buy before 11:59:59 PM on November 19, 2026, while several guides say “before November 20,” and physical pre-orders are reportedly covered only while supplies last. If the bonus matters to you, check the exact wording in your store before you buy.
Who the Ultimate Edition is worth it for
The Ultimate Edition makes sense if:
- You’re a completionist or collector. If you know you’ll want every vehicle, shop and side activity, $20 for all of it is reasonable. SVG says it is mainly for completionists, collectors and hardline GTA fans.
- You care about customization. Five extra shops for clothing, hair, tattoos and vehicle mods give you more ways to style Jason, Lucia and your cars.
- You were going to upgrade anyway. The upgrade costs the same $20, so if you’re sure, buying Ultimate up front just saves you a step.
It’s probably not worth it if:
- You mainly play for the story. SVG says nothing in the Ultimate Edition affects the experience much for story-focused players, and Engadget recommends keeping your $20 unless the cosmetics or bonus missions really appeal to you.
- You want a physical copy. Ultimate is digital only. Buy the boxed Standard Edition and add the upgrade later if you want it.
- You’re on a tight budget. That $20 goes a long way toward a controller, a storage upgrade, or a month or two of an online subscription.
Engadget also reports that Ultimate has reportedly accounted for almost 90 percent of pre-release sales. That shows how popular it is, but popularity doesn’t make it better value for you.
Why waiting costs you nothing
This is the key point. The upgrade is listed at $20 on the Xbox Store, the same as the gap between the two editions, and Rockstar confirms Standard owners can buy it separately. Based on what’s announced so far, buying Standard first doesn’t lock you out of anything except the decision to spend the money on day one.
If you go with Standard and change your mind later:
- Buy and install GTA 6 Standard Edition. If you have the physical version, redeem the code from the box on your console first.
- Play a few chapters and see whether the extras would actually matter to you.
- If they would, buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store.
- Keep playing. Ultimate items unlock as you progress through the story chapters.
Store prices can change, and there’s no word yet on whether the upgrade will ever be discounted, so check the current price when you decide.
Things that are still unconfirmed
As of October 28, 2026, a few questions don’t have solid official answers:
- GTA Online carryover. We couldn’t find an official statement on whether any Ultimate Edition items also appear in GTA 6’s online mode. Ignore guides that call Ultimate a must-have for Online until Rockstar confirms how it works.
- PC version. There’s no announced PC release date, so PC players can’t buy either edition yet.
- Pre-load timing. Several outlets report that digital pre-loading starts November 12, 2026. Check your console store’s listing to confirm.
Don’t confuse it with the collector’s box
Rockstar also sells The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, a $399.99 merchandise box. It does not include the game, so it isn’t a higher edition. Buy it only if you want the merchandise.
Bottom line
GTA 6 Ultimate Edition is fair value if you already know you want every extra car, shop and side activity. For everyone else, the Standard Edition at $79.99 gets you the full game and the same pre-order bonus, and the $20 upgrade stays available if you change your mind. Start with Standard, play it, and decide once you know how much the extras matter to you.

Frequently asked questions
Can I upgrade from GTA 6 Standard to Ultimate later? +
Yes. Rockstar says the Ultimate Edition Upgrade can be bought separately by Standard Edition owners, and the Xbox Store lists it at $20, the same gap as buying Ultimate outright. That means there is no price penalty for waiting.
Is there a physical GTA 6 Ultimate Edition? +
No. Rockstar's support page says a physical Ultimate Edition is not available, but physical Standard Edition owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade after redeeming their game. Reports describe the physical Standard release as a box with a download code, so check the retailer listing.
Do you need the Ultimate Edition to get the GTA 6 pre-order bonus? +
No. The Vintage Vice City Pack comes with pre-orders of either edition. Store listings also mention one month of GTA+ for pre-orders, but the exact cutoff is worded differently across sources, so check your store's listing.
Does the Ultimate Edition change the GTA 6 story? +
Not in any major way. It adds vehicles, weapons, cosmetics, shops and two extra side activities that unlock as you progress through the story chapters. Reviewers such as SVG say story-focused players won't miss much without it.
