DayZ Badlands: Release, Price, Nasdara Map and Update 1.30
What DayZ Badlands is, what the paid expansion adds versus the free Update 1.30, how the Nasdara desert map plays, and what to know before you buy.
DayZ Badlands is the third major paid expansion for Bohemia Interactive’s survival game DayZ, and it launched on October 15, 2026 alongside the free Update 1.30. It adds Nasdara, a 267 km² desert province that is the largest official DayZ map, built around heat, water scarcity and rebuilding ruined towns.
That launch is why it is climbing the Steam charts right now. Below is what you actually get, what is free for everyone, and what to check before you jump in. Details are as of October 2026 and may change with hotfixes.
What DayZ Badlands is
Badlands follows Livonia and Frostline as DayZ’s next big expansion. According to Bohemia’s press release, it is set in Nasdara, a desert province west of Chernarus on the border with Takistan, shaped by a long-running proxy war.
The headline facts from official and launch coverage:
- Map size: 267 km², described as the largest map for official DayZ (PCGamesN, ZAP-Hosting).
- Climate: an arid environment where finding drinkable water is one of the hardest parts of surviving.
- New threats and gear: desert-adapted infected and region-specific items, clothing and firearms.
- Rebuilding: more than 5,000 rebuildable structures across the map, per Bohemia.
Release date, platforms and price
Bohemia first gave an October 2026 window when it rolled out Update 1.29 “Road to Badlands” in July, then set October 15 as the date in a Steam announcement. Launch-day coverage such as Playday confirms it went live on that date.
| Item | What sources report (October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Release | October 15, 2026, together with Update 1.30 |
| Type | Paid DLC; requires the DayZ base game |
| Price | Bohemia said “below $25”; launch coverage cites about $24.99, with regional pricing |
| Platforms | PC (Steam) plus PlayStation and Xbox, according to Bohemia’s “all platforms” messaging |
Two caveats. Some pre-launch reports listed slightly different console platform lists, so confirm the listing on your own console’s store. And because exact pricing varies by region and can change with sales, treat the dollar figure as a guide, not a quote.
What is free vs. what you pay for
This is the most common point of confusion. The launch was really two things shipping at once.
Free for everyone: Update 1.30
Every DayZ owner gets Update 1.30, whether or not they buy Badlands. Reported highlights from iGameMag’s 1.30 rundown and Experimental-branch notes:
- Motorbikes: two new bikes, named in Experimental notes as the Jana 50 moped and the Bitrak 682 dirt bike. They are not limited to Nasdara. Reports describe single-rider bikes with leaning physics, and crashes that can knock you unconscious.
- Infected changes: directional infected attacks that react to your stance and to terrain height.
- Interface: redesigned inventory icons and UI improvements.
- Fixes: server-side fixes, including for a freezing exploit and respawn stutter.
Bohemia’s final patch notes are the authority here. Some articles were written from the Experimental build, so a few details may have shifted at release.
Paid: the Badlands expansion
Buying Badlands gives you access to Nasdara and its content: the map itself, the desert infected, the region-specific gear, and servers running the new terrain.
The code lock
Bohemia’s press release also announced an official PIN-based code lock. It works on rebuildable structures and on existing base fences, supports consoles, and needs a charged 9V battery; without power it unlocks automatically. Some later summaries say the lock is coming to every map rather than only Nasdara. Bohemia’s announcement tied it to the expansion launch, so check the 1.30 patch notes to see exactly where it applies.
Surviving Nasdara: what changes
If you are coming from Chernarus or Livonia, plan around these differences.
Water is the main resource
Bohemia has said finding drinking water will be one of the toughest challenges on the map. Some wells are broken and can be fully restored with work, which turns them into long-term water sources for you or whoever finds them next. Hosting-provider guides also describe drought and heat hazards. Bohemia has not published detailed numbers on those systems, so expect to learn them in play.
Rebuilding instead of only scavenging
The new rebuilding feature lets you restore ruined houses rather than just loot them. With more than 5,000 rebuildable structures, a group can claim and repair a building as a base. One server guide notes that a persistence wipe on Nasdara resets restored towns along with bases, so rebuilt areas are only as permanent as the server’s wipe schedule.
A practical first-hour plan
- Update DayZ to 1.30 and make sure the Badlands DLC shows as installed in your platform’s library.
- Pick an official or community server that runs the Nasdara map. Chernarus and Livonia servers will not put you in the desert.
- Prioritize water containers and any working water source before you chase loot.
- Note restorable wells and buildings near your spawn. They are worth returning to once you have materials.
- Learn the new bikes on a quiet road before relying on them. Crashes can leave you unconscious.
For server owners
Every server had to update to 1.30 on October 15, whether or not it switched to Nasdara. Launch coverage reports a full wipe of official servers. For community servers, guides disagree on whether Bohemia formally recommended a wipe, so that call is yours. If you move a modded server to Nasdara, ZAP-Hosting notes that coordinate-based setups like traders and safe zones do not carry over from Chernarus and need to be placed again. The low.ms preview is a useful pre-launch checklist.
Early reception
There are no major critic reviews yet as of October 16. Steam user reviews for the DLC were in the low hundreds on launch day and moved around noticeably as more came in, which is normal for a sample that small. Launch-week issues can also skew early scores. If you are on the fence, it is reasonable to wait a week for Bohemia’s first hotfixes and a larger set of player reviews.
Is it worth it?
If you play DayZ regularly and want a new map with a different survival loop, Badlands is the obvious buy. Water management and rebuilding make it play differently from the green maps. If you mostly want the motorbikes or the quality-of-life changes, you already get those free with Update 1.30. Nothing about the DLC changes the hardware basics of DayZ, but a map this large is worth testing on your current settings before committing to long sessions.
